PREPARE TO LISTEN
001. LOBOS CREEK, SAN FRANCISCO
here... hear a compilation of sounds collected from walking around clement street of san francisco and culminates with sounds from lobos creek park, which leads out to baker beach!
in this recording, you can hear the music playing inside the shops that make up clement st. (laundromats, bookstores, grocery stores) ! then, we flow into nature’s music - birds! chirping!! and make our way to the sound of the ocean waves. at the very end is a guitarist who was performing in front of a record store located in the richmond district. this was truly a lovely finale for the course, and cemented an appreciation for sound & music to my heart and brain. thank you Prof. Joel Wanek and my lovely lovely classmates.
1. Careless Whisper - George Michael
2. Kiss of Life - Sade
3. Flowers - Miley Cyrus
002. COYOTE HILLS
sounds collected from the beautiful coyote hills! of all class trips, this location was my favorite! it was so gorgeously full of wildlife and greeenery. i loved hiking and walking around listening to the birds, insects, wetlands, people-watching... such a beautiful experience!
i was also very glad to hear no construction or leaf-blowing noises overriding the natural ambient sounds, which can be heard in my other recordings below.
take a listen!
to the ecology of birds chirping.. footsteps... crickets.... playground.........
everyday sounds i used to consider “just noise” comes to life through the act of recording, and it has helped me become more aware and appreciative of the all environments that i come across. so very neat !
003. SAN LORENZO CREEK
APR. 04 - this soundwalk features a mixture of urban sounds and nature that seem to clash, but nonetheless exist in the same environment simultaneously. there are sounds of construction while birds continue chirping within the same street - i personally found this very interesting.. are the sounds clashing? or co-existing..?
004. ALAMEDA CREEK
APR. 11 - every single class trip was beautiful, but the one to niles was gorgeous! i loved the contrasting combination of nature and roads.. and all else aside, the nature and antique stores found in niles was truly beautiful. i’d love to visit again with friends and record more video footage for memories in addition to the recorded sounds. not as many interesting sounds compared to other locations, but the scenery was truly beautiful. i felt this is the one trip that a visual (in addition to sonic) recordings would be nice to capture its beauty.
005. PINOLE CREEK, PINOLE
MAR. 07 - this trip to pinole was another one of my favorites! i loved the coffee at east bay coffee shop... right across the bus wildcat bus stop too! how convenient ha! & walked through a long road with the creek running through pinole and eventually reached a waterfront with a beautiful view. towards the end of the trip, the class was greeted with a lovely couple who explained the history of hercules/pinole neighborhood.
006. BUSHY DELL CREEK
FEB. 21 - this was a day spent following the bushy dell creek. we began our journey in oakland’s lakeside park and made our way to lake merritt - the creek flows down to the lake. as we walk towards and arrive at the lake, there is a noticable change in sound! much more community connected by music, stories, and the nature. this is another one of my personal favorite class adventures - i hope the lady found her glasses, and that i can make my way back to lake merrit ASAP.
